Camp Rising Sun is a fully-funded program located in upstate New York, where young individuals develop leadership skills, engage in learning exchanges, and foster a sense of community. After attending, you’ll return with a deeper understanding of yourself, the world around you, and ways to make a positive impact in your community.

You’ll join a small, international group of students tackling issues related to leadership, identity, justice, and action. The Ethical Leadership Experience (TELE) is an engaging virtual initiative where participants can collaborate on projects with peers from across the globe, share their interests, discover others’ passions, and forge lasting friendships.

CRS Application Process

• Applications open on November 1st.
• Submit Part 1 of your application.
• Attend an optional information session (sign-up required).
• Complete and submit your application before the regional deadline (see deadlines below).
• Applicants moving to the interview stage will be contacted by their region’s selection committee between January 15th and March 1st.
• Get ready for your interview by preparing to discuss your interests, motivations, and why you want to attend Camp Rising Sun. Interviews will occur between January and March, depending on your region’s committee.
• LAJF will forward its final judgments (accepted, waitlisted, or denied) in the month of March with precise times varying by area.
• An information session for admitted students and families will be held on April 6th, featuring past campers and their families.
• If admitted, you must confirm your spot within one week.
• Waitlisted candidates will be notified starting in April.
• Your regional selection committee will offer guidance both before and after the program.

• January 5th: Germany
• January 15th: All other regions not listed, Barbados, China – Tianjin, The Netherlands, South Africa, USA – California, USA – Colorado, USA – New York/New Jersey, Zambia
• The month of February 1st: Finland, and Palestine, Poland, Greenland, the state of Minnesota, USA.
• February 15th: Denmark, Greece, Ecuador (for 2025 admissions), Hungary, Israel, Norway, Sweden
• February 16th: Spain
• April 13th: Japan

Benefits

• Camp Rising Sun offers a full scholarship for admitted students.
• Campers are not required to pay tuition to participate in the program.
• In cases where families or local alumni associations cannot cover travel expenses, LAJF may offer financial assistance based on need to help with travel costs. These funds, however, are limited.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applications are open to students from anywhere in the world.
• You must be at least 15 years old at the start of your camp session and not older than 17 by the end of the session.
• Applicants must be available to attend the entire four-week, in-person program.
• Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is essential for understanding safety protocols and maximizing your experience at CRS.
• Children or descendants of past Camp Rising Sun past students may apply to be legacy participants.
• Accepted candidates must undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation (both physical and mental health) and provide proof of required vaccinations, including full vaccination against COVID-19. Exemptions may be granted.

Application Requirements

You’ll need to submit the following materials by your region’s application deadline:

1. Application Forms:
   • Complete the 2024 CRS and TELE Application Part 1.
   • Complete Part 2 of the Camp Rising Sun Camper Application 2024, which involves answering short questions and completing a mini-project. Part 1 must be submitted first to access Part 2.
   • You will receive a LAJF Applicant ID upon submitting Part 1, which will be needed to complete Part 2. If you encounter issues, a PDF version of the application is available.
2. One reference: The reference must come from an adult who knows you well (e.g., teacher, counselor, principal, coach, club leader, religious advisor, or scout leader). Family members are not permitted to serve as references.

Once Part 1 is completed, submit your application. All references must be submitted by the application deadline for your region.
